The Oxford Ancient Languages Society is a group of students and dons, primarily from the University of Oxford, sharing the passion for ancient languages, literature and culture. We work to promote the study of Latin, Greek, and—a recent addition—Sanskrit among people of all backgrounds through the direct method, i.e. not just reading and writing, but also speaking and listening. In our classes, we combine grammatical rigour with enthusiasm for conversation and reading together. Besides our regular language classes, we also organise the Noctes Musarum, evenings of, primarily, Latin conversation and singing. We are always looking to expand the range of ancient languages we teach, speak, and enjoy.
