Candidate Eligibility

If you would like to put yourself forward as a candidate to be a sabbatical officer trustee, you must be a current student at the time of the elections (so up until the end of Week 4 of Hilary Term)

Candidates will need to gain permission to run for election from their college and/or division. This is because successful candidates will need to suspend their studies for a year; sabbatical officers will not be permitted to continue any part of their studies alongside working full time. We've created a guide for your college/division and a permission slip which you can download below:

As you will be a full-time employee of the students’ union, you will need to have the right to work in the UK. If you are on a student visa, see the UKCISA webpages about whether you could complete the sabbatical officer post during your current visa length, or if your visa expires soon read the information about how to switch to a sabbatical officer visa. If you have any further questions, let us know and then we can check with the Student Immigration team.

Because sabbatical officers are also trustees of Oxford SU, you must also not:

  • have previously been removed as a trustee, charity officer, agent or employee, by the Commission or the High Court due to misconduct or mismanagement (or the Scottish equivalents).

  • currently be declared bankrupt or subject to bankruptcy restrictions or an interim order

  • Be subject to a debt relief order, a debt relief restrictions order or interim order

  • Be disqualified from being a company director.

We will also ask you to confirm that you are not currently under investigation with your college or the Proctor’s office for any serious disciplinary issues
