Elections Rules & Key Dates 2025

We’ve updated the elections bye-laws and you can read those here after the consultation has closed at the end of Week 8. In short though - we ask candidates to keep the elections positive, free and fair.

We’ve removed restrictions on slates and simplified a load of the rules. If you are seeking endorsement from a society or a campaign, just make sure that you do it fairly and don’t abuse any existing positions. We won’t tolerate any sort of bullying, harassment or victimisation and we expect you to treat everyone with respect.

If we receive a complaint about you or someone in your campaign team, the Deputy Returning Officer can apply a whole range of penalties; you can appeal to the RO but the ROs decision is final.

All complaints must be received by the end of the elections, and the RO won’t announce the results until they are satisfied that they are safe and fair.

Each candidate gets a maximum budget of £60 which we will reimburse. The RO may withdraw you from the election if you fail to provide sufficient evidence of your expenditure by the end of the election – so keep your receipts!
