Student Council Officer Elections
Chair of Council - The Chair of Council is responsible for the smooth running of Oxford SU's Student Council. The post is elected in 7th week Student Council of every term to serve for the following term. You'll receive staff support for your role including chair training.
Returning Officer - The Returning Officer is responsible for all things to do with Elections. This includes Elections in Council, Campaign Elections, and the Annual SU Elections. They are the chair of the Elections Committee, handle complaints and count the results! The post is elected in 7th week Student Council of every term to serve for the following term.
Steering Committee Officer(s) (x2) - The Steering Committee is made up of the two elected Steering Committee Officers, the SU President, Chair of Council, and the Returning Officer. Their job is to look over the motions submitted to Student Council to ensure the are written in accordance with the Rules of Council, are not illegal and do not require steering to another committee first.
The Elections Committee Officer(s) (x3) - The Elections Committee plays a crucial role in ensuring Oxford SU's Annual Elections are run fairly and properly. This means making rulings on the use of Social Media, the use of mailing lists during campaigning, the grouping of candidates into slates, and much more.
The Scrutiny Committee Officer(s) (x2) - The Scrutiny Committee are elected at the start of Michaelmas Term to serve for the entirety of the academic year. Their job is to interview the Sabbatical Trustees, review the Sabbatical Trustees work and scrutinise them on behalf of Student Council. Once a term the Scrutiny Committee will present Student Council with a report and recommendations for the Sabbatical Team.
