Thank you for your interests in joining Target Schools Committee. Applications are due to open again in Trinity Term 2025. Please email studentengagement@oxfordsu.ox.ac.uk for queries and/or register your interests. 

Our mission at Target Schools is to encourage state sixth form students from areas of low progression to higher education to apply to Oxford by offering shadowing days and an alternative prospectus.

We understand that damaging myths and stereotypes often dissuade students from state schools from applying to Oxford; our mission is to give students the opportunity to see for themselves that these myths aren’t true.

 

roles

President

  • Chair Target Schools Committee meetings. 

  • Directly manage Target Schools Vice Presidents and sub-committee heads. 

  • Work closely with the Student Engagement Team and Vice President UG Education and Access to ensure clear communication between Target Schools and Oxford SU. 

  • Develop Strategic Plans for each area of Target Schools. 

  • Evaluate Success of Programs, Projects, Events and other Target Schools Initiatives. 

  • Promote the Target Schools Brand within the University and represent Target Schools externally. 

  • Coordinate Target Schools Teams/Officers and connect them externally to create positive outcomes. 

  • Develop new projects and initiatives to continue to grow Target Schools 

Shadowing Days Lead

  • Ensure the planning, coordination, and successful running of Shadowing Days. 

  • Recruit undergraduate volunteers to participate in Shadowing Days. 

  • Work with the Schools Liaison Officer to reach Sixth Formers at Targeted Schools. 

  • Liaise with College Access Staff to provide lunches for Shadowing Days. 

  • Collect and review feedback from sixth formers and undergraduate volunteers. 

  • Work with the Vice President Programs to develop, refine, and expand Shadowing Days. 

  • Ensure all information requested by the Oxford SU’s Student Engagement Team is provided to them in accordance with Oxford SU’s Safeguarding Policies. 

Schools Liason Officer

  • Assist the Program and Project Teams in connecting with Sixth Formers. 

  • Build and manage a network with schools with a limited background of sending students to Oxbridge. 

  • Liaise with College Access staff to ensure Target Schools complements their work with schools. 

  • Gather feedback from schools on the work of Target Schools. 

Alternative Prospectus Lead

  • Assist the Program and Project Teams in connecting with Sixth Formers. 

  • Build and manage a network with schools with a limited background of sending students to Oxbridge. 

  • Liaise with College Access staff to ensure Target Schools complements their work with schools. 

  • Gather feedback from schools on the work of Target Schools. 

Vice-President Programs

  • Ensure the success of Target Schools Programs. 

  • Support the Shadowing Days Program Leader to ensure the success of their plans and initiatives. 

  • Coordinate the answering of prospective students’ queries and concerns. 

  • Regularly meet with the Target Schools Committee to provide updates, and opinions if required.

  • Coordinate with Student Engagement Team to ensure risk assessments, safeguarding procedures, and operations are carried out properly. 

  • Assist the Target Schools President to develop new programs to continue to grow Target Schools. 

Vice-President Finance

  • Lead discussion for how Target Schools can best invest for the future. 

  • Ensure clear communications with the Oxford SU’s Student Engagement Team. 

  • Assist Program and Project Teams with budgeting. 

  • Develop sponsorship strategy. 

  • Coordinate with Vice President Projects to ensure all budgets, transactions, and income comply with Oxford SU financial procedures. 

  • Count and bank any money that may come in as cash. 

Vice-President Projects

  • Ensure the success of Target Schools Projects. 

  • Directly manage the Alternative Prospectus Project Leader, meeting them regularly to coordinate their work. 

  • Coordinate with Vice President Communications on marketing strategy. 

  • Coordinate with Student Engagement Team to ensure risk assessments, safeguarding procedures, and operations are carried out properly. 

  • Assist the Target Schools President to develop new projects to continue to grow Target Schools. 

Vice-President Communications

  • Minute Committee Meetings, which includes clear directions from each meeting to relevant officers.? 

  • Manage the Target Schools Mailing Lists and email communications.? 

  • Coordinate with Vice President Programs and Vice President Projects on marketing strategy.? 

  • Coordinate with Student Engagement Team to develop and maintain the Target Schools website content.? 

  • Organise Target Schools’ involvement in the annual Freshers Fair.? 

  • Organise a variety of social events for Target Schools Committee.?
